The flames danced and crackled, casting flickering shadows that seemed to dance in time with the whispers of the night. As the aroma of cooking fish filled the air, I couldn't help but feel a sense of rapport and unity with my teammates. The challenges of the Hunger Games had tested us in ways we could never have imagined, and yet, we remained resolute in our determination to see it through. Aret expertly prepared the fish, her white hair gleaming in the firelight. Despite the hardships we had faced, there was a glimmer of hope in her eyes, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there could be moments of warmth and connection.

Hunger is a powerful motivator. My pity party has been going on for barely an hour when I can’t take it anymore. I haven’t eaten anything proper since morning, okay? I only had a few snacks while we watched the games and that was it. And when Jude mentioned barbecue earlier? My mouth watered and my stomach started warming up for all the good food I was anticipating. I never followed through with that and now my stomach is growling in protest. It also doesn’t help that the aroma of what Jude ordered is making its way into the bedroom. I should have taken my share before announcing my need for isolation.

That lady passed her a small smile when she found Jasmine looking at her with curious eyes. "Your food," the lady muttered gently. That's when Jasmine saw the plate and a glass of water in her hands. She scrutinized the plate and found two pieces of bread and a glass of milk. Jasmine was hungry would be an understatement. She was utterly starving but who would eat food from a murderer's house? It's all from the money he got by taking others' lives. How can he eat this food without even feeling guilty?. Even the thought of looking into the food made her stomach churn in pain.

If he hadn’t shown up, I was sure Lexie would still be here today. I found my hunger had doubled since she left and I found myself having to feed more often but only on blondes that looked like her. For the first few months I would only feed but then I came across a girl that looked just like Lexie and I ordered her every time trying to fill the hunger that I had in Lexie’s absence for her. But even though the girl looked similar, the taste wasn’t the same and it never satisfied me one hundred percent.

My hunger had reached its limit, and the scent of nourishment overwhelmed my willpower. With trembling hands, I picked up the fork and took a small bite. The flavors exploded on my tongue, satisfying my hunger and awakening a long-forgotten pleasure. The men observed my capitulation with a mix of relief and satisfaction, as if fulfilling their duty to ensure my survival. As the days turned into weeks, this ritual of nourishment and submission became a routine. Each meal brought with it a delicate dance of resistance and acquiescence. I tried to maintain my independence, my spirit unyielding, but the persistent pangs of hunger weakened my resistance.

Was he doing that to make fun of me? I glanced at the meat on the table- God! I would kill to taste some of that. Without thinking twice about it, I said whatever came to my mind, "Meat is very hard to find in Nightwalker. Hunting is for those with wolves and not even anyone can do that. There's famine. People are hungry and Alpha Jerry can hardly make good use of the people's population to make enough for everyone." Why did I have to eat veggies when there was meat? Shouldn't I eat meat to put on some weight?

"Come on, Joey. Zayla's just curious about the animals. She's pregnant, so be more patient with her. Besides, most of the animals are gentle. It's not like she'll go near the dangerous ones." Even though I had refused, he secretly took the keys and gave them to her. What he didn't know was that this betrayal had cost me everything. The starving bears, having devoured my severed hand, charged after me. I had no choice but to scramble up the iron netting and scream for help. But Zayla hadn't gone far. She stood nearby, laughing, and threw rocks at me as if I were a monkey. Stone after stone struck my body. "Die, you filthy woman! Your son would never claim a wretch like you as his mother!"

Could someone so calm be trusted with something that serious? I pushed the thought aside and headed back into the training room. Alone now, I resumed my training. I followed the steps Adam had shown me before, every movement burned into my muscles. But my stomach had no respect for my ambition. It growled loudly, reminding me I hadn’t eaten. I tried to ignore it, pushing through, but the hunger was too much. Finally, I called for my maid. “Please... get me something to eat,” I said, sounding more like a grieving child than a warrior. I didn’t care anymore.

~ A M E L I A ~ Tiredness and hunger bloomed in me. However, as it was most days, the pain of my torture was too unbearable, for I couldn’t even think about eating. It wasn’t like they fed me anyway. I was lucky if I was given a bite of stale bread at times. One day, when my body wasn’t healing at all, the guards that kept an eye on me when Alpha Draven was away fed me a single spoonful of honey and two spoonfuls of water to wash it down. The sweet and sticky liquid soothed my dry and hoarse throat, yet the minute it disappeared, the dryness and pain returned.
