“I don't think we've met. I'm Myron, the Alpha’s brother.” Brother? “I wasn't aware Stephan had a brother.” I answered. The Luna said and touched the arms of the Alpha, and then she smiled at me. Alpha Kenneth. He snorted and looked down at his meal. “This is Beta Gilbert. He will help you with everything you need. This is my son, your Uncle, Jonathan, and your Uncle, who is my second son, Emerald, and his daughters, Chloe and Benita, and his wife, Laurel.” She introduced, and they didn’t make any attempt to say a word to me. I wonder if I'm going to keep up with those names. “…your mother came last, and there’s you, Ocean. What a thoughtless name he gave you.”

I asked flatly. There was a pause. I couldn’t see his eyes beneath the bandage, but I felt his surprise ripple in the air. He hadn’t expected the question, not like that. For once, I had thrown him off balance. He shrugged, stepping further into the room, his boots scraping against the floor. “I thought you might have heard. I’m Alpha now.” His voice carried arrogance, like venom dripping slow. “Our father finally had the sense to recognize where true power lies. You’ve lost, brother. But don’t fret. I’m not cruel. I’d be willing to give you a place—some work at the cottage, perhaps. We could use your strength. It would be… a noble contribution.”

As I stepped past Bram toward the open door, I paused, reaching out to pat him firmly on the shoulder, my grip solid and firm. “You've been a good friend, Bram,” I said, my voice genuine, completely stripped of all Alpha authority. “You've been with me through thick and thin, through every brutal beating my father gave me and every terrible mistake I've made since taking the title. I could never have asked for a better Beta.” Bram looked down at my hand resting on his shoulder, then slowly raised his eyes to mine. He nodded thoughtfully, a small smile touching the edge of his lips, though it didn't reach his eyes at all.

From what I heard from Carlos, this guy tormented him relentlessly and his brother never did anything to stop it. Based on what I just saw, Carlos wasn’t exaggerating.

“Your dad doesn’t want you to work. Our Alpha is your step-brother. You will be well taken care of here. You don’t have to work.” My anger grew. This guy didn’t know anything about me. He just assumed that I wanted my father to take care of me. He just assumed that I wanted his money. Also, hearing him call Alpha Dimitri my step-brother was so freaking weird. I didn’t like it. He wasn’t my step-brother. He was an Alpha who took me in and that was all. “I don’t want my father to take care of me,” I said. “I want to take care of myself.”
