I tried to prop myself up which was too painful. “Don’t. You should rest more.” He squeezed my hand knowingly. I could overhear cops outside the room. There were 3 casualties in total. All three were girls. Brunettes. Like me. One of them was Aria. I feel a lump in my throat. “It’s my fault.” I whisper, taking in a shaky breath like I was about to cry. “Shhh.. It’s okay. I’m here. It wasn’t your fault. You don’t control that man’s actions. I won’t let you blame yourself, alright?” He whispered, moving the bed cover and getting into bed with me. Just like we used to at the dorm.

Gabe immediately went to her, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her into his side. “It’s my fault,” she continued, tears slipping down her cheeks. “It should have been me not her.” Ash scowled and Gabe didn’t look any better. Guilt weighed heavily in Gabe’s eyes. He looked haggard and gray, suddenly older than his thirty-nine years. “That’s bullshit,” Jace growled. “It’s not your fault, Mia. I won’t have you saying it.” “We all know it’s my fault,” Gabe said grimly. “If I’d taken care of the asshole the first time, we wouldn’t be standing here and Josie wouldn’t be lying in a hospital bed.”

Terzo was in pain, not physically, and it tugged at my heartstrings. “You can’t take all the blame, Terzo. It was my fault, too. I pushed you away because I got mad, but I have the right to get mad. Don’t I? If there’s one person to be blamed, it’s my father. He didn’t believe me when I said, I didn’t have that damn book. And you almost died because of that.” Shock flickered across his face. His hard features softened, replaced with warmth and tenderness. But that was it. He didn’t say anything.

I wouldn't still go even if I was to be sure somehow that she wouldn't be sleeping in the house tonight. My head was full, and my eyes hung heavily. In everything that had happened, I did not shed a single tear. I didn't want to. It was not my mother's fault that she trailed the wrong part, that she met the wrong people. It was not my fault to have believed a friend I have known for the past three years, and it was not my fault that they were players. It was not my fault that I was surrounded by people that should be hung high and tight, left to dangle until the only words left in their mouths were apologies and promises to become better people.
