Forbidden place Chapter 1 The alarm screamed. Not the gentle chime of a morning wake-up call or the soft buzz of a reminder, but a full-blown, high-pitched, wailing assault on my eardrums. I groaned, rolling over and slapping blindly at my nightstand until my fingers found my phone. 6:47 PM. Shit. I bolted upright, the last threads of sleep vanishing in an instant. My group was supposed to meet at 7:30, and knowing them, they’d start blowing up my phone with unnecessary “where are you?” texts the second the clock hit 7:31.

7:03am beep…beeep….beeep The sound of the morning alarm woke Ann from her deep sleep. She tried to open her eyes, hoping for a beautiful sunlight to welcome her back to earth but she felt like a piece of satin was tied over her eyes and knotted at the back of her head. She tried to move, but the cuffs bound around her wrist held her tight to the bed. “Fuck”. She groaned lightly as she tried to move her legs but couldn't as the bound were restraining her. She tried to move again but couldn't. Her body was splayed and tethered to the bed frame. The worst that made her terrified was the creepy sound of the door being opened and locked.

7:00am Freya's sudden alarm disrupted her sound sleep, its sharp insistent beeps piercing through the tranquil atmosphere. Freya stretched her arms and legs to full length, letting out a loud, sleepy yawn. Lazily, she reached for her alarm, silencing it immediately. She snuggled deeper into her comfortable blankets, savoring the quiet morning moment.

Alex pov ******3 years later,********* The blaring sound of my alarm rebounded throughout my room. I jerked up in confusion before It took me a moment to realise that it was not the fire alarm, but rather my alarm standing proudly on my bed stand. I grudgingly switched off the annoying piece of device, wondering how I forgot to deactivate it before going to sleep. "No more waiting." Somewhere deep in the facility, an alarm began to wail. ---

Only one magical alarm exists at the Kartheca, one that hasn’t sounded once in the tens of thousands of years it has existed, yet right now it is screeching loud and clear, a warning to my sisters and me to act and to act now. I look up at my mother in horror, “The Orraikam.”

I collapse on the ground, with my back flat on the ground. I'm sweaty, filthy, panting till there's no air up in my lungs. I stay still, just letting vibrations rip through me at intervals. The sudden sound of my alarm makes my whole body freeze. Shocked, I look up at the wall clock and my jaw drops. What the fuck?!

An alarm…and I only set alarms for one reason. Fuck. I paused in my steps. No way! How did I forget? I reached into my pocket with trembling fingers. The screen lit up. 12:00 AM. And then the alarm narration? My heart clenched so tight. I took one step back, then another. My breathing turned ragged, my vision blurring as tears threatened to fall. I read the words on my screen again. And again. “Mom’s Death Anniversary.”

And then I’m dragged under by the heat again, breath catching, thighs trembling, and– BANG BANG BANG. “Monica! You’ll be late for school!” I jerk awake so fast I fall straight off my bed and land on the floor with a loud thump that should’ve killed me on impact. I blink up at my ceiling, my heart punching the inside of my ribs, and my skin is on fire like my dream-Damian dragged half of hell back with him. “Your alarm has been screaming for the past ten minutes,” my dad calls again. “I thought World War Three had started.”
