Remembering that Alissa has the same journey as me makes me jealous because she's happy right now when I'm still fighting for my own happiness. Changing names.. Running away.. With every experience I had with them I have learned so much about who I am and who I am meant to become. The last year has been painful, embarrassing and downright tiring but I wouldn’t change anything that happened. If I did I wouldn’t be sitting here. This is the most happiness I’ve felt in my 18 years and I’ve had an awesome life so far. When I opened my eyes this morning, I realized that happiness is not a place, people or what I have. Happiness is a continual pursuit; I am constantly changing and growing. So the things that make me happy today may not be the same as next years. And that’s okay.

Happiness, true happiness lies within yourself. It’s what people tell you when that happiness is taken away. It’s what you tell yourself trying to fill the emptiness in your soul. I had been happy. For six months, my life had been complete bliss. It was the kind of happiness that lets you wake up with a smile on your face and keeps that smile there.

It’s a somber ending but I’ve come to terms with it. In these final remarks, I want to acknowledge how far I’ve come. Despite the trials and tribulations, I am happy now. A happy mother, a happy wife, and a happy woman,I started a foundation for women finding it hard to leave their abusive marriage and I'm pleased with the lives,I have touched. I’ve found my place, my peace, and my purpose. Life is filled with its ups and downs, but in this moment, I feel content and grateful for the love and happiness that surround me.
