I sit up and look at the ground. "You asked me to try to love you, and when I say I do, you pull away," I say as I look up at him. He nods. "You know my history. I haven't known love. Hearing someone say they love me is new to me. I said that because I didn't want you to be overwhelmed. I never actually expected you to love me. I'm not trying to pull away, I swear. It's just different," I swallow harshly as I look away from him.
