Angela Perry Mars is the president of Absolute Glam, but sometimes she would stay in the school founded by her cousin Anya and their friend, Dylan, and help them run the institution.

There was a group of people following behind the new President. Karen Joy Kyles's view was obstructed by the group of people behind the president, so she could only catch a glimpse of his back. He kept his chin up, trying to look infamous. He kept his face masked up. “Looking sharp today, Prez!” a guy from the track team called out. Josh nodded. He didn’t say a word. He just threw the words in; “President” flew by the wall. It was a title he wore like a heavy coat. His sight wasn't groomed like the others. He spotted the broken locker on the left side.

“Why would it be yours? This seat has an owner. The president. Whoever he is. So stand up and walk out before I call security to bounce you out.” There it is. The misogyny, dressed as tradition. I let his words hang for one breath. Two. I exhaled deeply. Adjusted the hem of my black dress with both hands. The silk whispered. Calm. I could feel Phillips relax—he thought I was leaving. I straightened. Met his eyes. Didn’t blink. “I’m Lyara Ashworth,” I said. Each word landed like a stamp. “President of Ashworth Heights. The shadow ruler. And I’m tired of being in darkness.”
