The pale yellow covered everything it was supposed to cover. I put the roller back. Lid back on the paint can. Turned off the lamp. Stood in the doorway of the dark pale yellow room for one more moment. My mother's yarn. His paint. The same color. I went to my room. I didn't knock on his door.
