Her breath caught, and for a moment neither of us said anything at all, the threat on my phone and the danger still circling somewhere outside these walls fading into something distant and manageable compared to the weight of what had just been said out loud between us.
I might have kissed her then, might have let the moment carry us somewhere neither of us was fully braced for, if my phone hadn't buzzed again against the table, sharp and insistent in the quiet room.
Both of us flinched toward it at the same time.
