She was sleeping soundly. She had a good sleep! But tonight, she was a little sleepless because she found a very good novel. It was really beautiful. It was already one o'clock in the morning, and she was still under the quilt, watching with relish.

And whatever I’ve just unlocked… It was never meant to be opened. The Watcher (Scene expansion) Later that night, I can’t sleep—not even pretend to. I’ve tucked the key beneath my pillow, as if keeping it close will stop it from doing what I already know it will: open something I can’t undo. I sit by the window, watching the wind push the trees like they’re breathing. The branches bend and creak, but nothing breaks. I don’t know if it’s my imagination or the leftover adrenaline from the forest, but I feel eyes on me again. Heavy. Old.

Every hair on my arm stood up. I checked my watch. 11:48 PM. Twelve minutes. I walked the edge of the clearing first, listening for signs of movement, sniffing for any trace of fur or sweat or magic that didn’t belong to me. Nothing. No rogue wolves. No foolish humans. Just me, and the mountain, and the hour. I pulled my shirt over my head. The cold bit down, but I barely felt it. My skin was hot, tight, and ready for this. The Calling Night wasn’t like the blood moon or the eclipse. It didn’t roar. It didn’t tear the sky open. It whispered. It stirred. It reminded the earth of what once was.

This is different and the difference is not subtle. She is eighteen inches away. The room is hers as much as mine.. her book, her glass of water, her hair tie on the nightstand, the specific complicated architecture of pillows she requires now. She knows I am here. If she opened her eyes she would find me, and nothing about being found would cost me anything. That is the whole distinction. Watching somebody who cannot see you is a kind of theft. Watching somebody who could, at any moment, look back is just being awake in the same room.

Skippy my new bodyguard announces. I shudder at the sight of him as he escorts Cierra away. For some reason, i don’t feel so sleepy so i read a bit for my last exam and once that gets boring, i move to the balcony with a romance novel. “So beautiful,!” I mutter, wondering why i haven’t spent time here. The book starts to get more interesting that I end up grabbing a snap to munch on while I read. “Shit it’s almost 12am,” I gasp looking at my clock.

Then timing. At exactly 9:00 p.m., Violet left the main floor. At 9:10, two guards swapped shifts. At 9:15, the kitchen lights dimmed. At 9:20, the hallway near the west wing went quiet in a way it didn’t during the day. I was learning the house’s breathing pattern. And when you learn a thing’s breathing pattern, you can learn when it’s vulnerable. That night, I read Katherine again. Not for drama.

time passed so soon that i didnt even noticed the clock which now showing 1am , devil's hour . "Lets sleep neela its enough for today " closing my files and book i arranged them neatly on my study table and layed on the bed not before turning off the lights . but something didnt felt right , goosebumps erupt on my skin when once again i felt the same heated gaze lingering on my body . My eyes moved towards the window to see the black silhouette standing outside once again . even though i cant see him but i know he must be smirking seeing my reaction .

His words carried weight. The realization settled like stone in my ribs. This wasn’t bad luck. Someone had been following me. Waiting. And they weren’t done yet. The Watcher in the Dark That night, I didn’t sleep. The estate was too quiet, like everything inside it was holding its breath. The feeling of being watched hadn’t faded. If anything, it was worse. I sat at the edge of my bed, watching the treeline from my window. The shadows seemed darker than usual. Then—movement.

The food tasted good, and I complemented the chef. I freshened up, picked up one of my books and started to read, and within minutes, I fell asleep. Blake I wake in the dead middle of the night to the feeling of being watched. The voices in my head skitter through my gray matter, whispering, tittering like they’re holding conversations with each other that they don’t want me to hear. Hushed whispers from the heavens cease abruptly as I sit up, rubbing my eyes, and look down at where Marianna is curled beside me, her head resting between the pillows. Her hand falls down my chest, settling in my lap. The moonlight paints her skin in silver. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
