Her eyes gradually closed as she snuggled in her pillow and blanket, listening to his voice had a calming effect on her as he sang the song ‘At Last’ by Etta James in his own version. Moments later, he heard her soft snores. However, he didn’t stop with that one song. He sang three other songs. ‘Somebody You Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi, ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ by James Arthur. And finally ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. After the last song, he muttered “Goodnight, Amor.” The call ended. That night, Dawn slept peacefully. Weeks later, everyone was preparing for their Christmas Party while others were already talking about what they would do on their Christmas break.

She laughs before climbing off the bed and scooping me up in one hand. Then the next thing she does is to rip off my head and then throw me into the garbage bin. The last thing I remember before it all goes dark is a horrible laughter coming from somewhere in the room, which is Marybelle’s real voice. My door swung open without warning. “Aria! Get up!” my mother called. “I need help with the chores.”

The next second, a white flash nuked my vision and forced my eyes shut. When I opened them again, my living room had straight-up rage quit and turned into a blood-red wasteland. "Okay, what the hell?" I squinted and spotted my six-foot-two husband, Adrian Chase, already doing the whole protective-dad thing with one arm around our son.

I draw a circle on the color palette and turn the lights on. Now, Jamie’s clown face is brightened up by vibrant lights that blinks and change colors rapidly. “Almost forget to turn your light bulbs on.” I said, pointing at the phone screen, “Do you want to add some music?” Jamie gives the blinking fairy lights wrapped around his neck a weird glance, “These light bulbs sing?” “Hell yeah.” I read as I swipe down the list, “There’s Christmas carols on the playlist——Silent Night, We Three Kings, The First Noel…”

It was endless, she was screaming until she found herself incapable of breathing. She woke up gasping for air and frantically observed her surroundings. *Sigh* It was the same nightmare, again. Her breathing became normal but the fear that crept inside her was increasing with the passing time. This nightmare was like a ticking bomb, it could blast any moment of her life because she was unaware of the timer. ••••••••••

I cried out in pain as I dropped to the floor. "And that is to make sure you won't run again," his lips lifted into a smirk while my eyes stung with tears. I felt the world around me shifting. Darkness crept around me but I turned my eyes to Lindsey. My eyes rolled back and my eyelids started to feel heavy, I tried to reach out to my sister. I had the feeling that I wouldn’t be able to see her again. The last thing I heard before welcoming the darkness was his bitter voice saying, "Take her." and with that, I closed my eyes and lost myself into oblivion.
