I sat there for what felt like hours, hugging myself, feeling like a child in her skin. I couldn’t tell anyone, I would lock the doors, check the windows twice, and sleep with the lights on. I would wait it out, like I always had cause if Jac had taught me anything, it was that monsters don’t live under your bed. They stand in your living room and smile like they belong there.

He placed his briefcase on the bed and took out the document. He looked at the seal on it for some time and placed it in his drawer and then dashed to the bathroom. After about fifteen minutes, he came out, laid on the bed and fell asleep. *** Little droplets of rain could be seen on the ground and in the garden. It was obvious it had rained heavily the previous night. Kelsa woke up with a very bad cough. It seemed the nightmares have returned. She had been having the same nightmare for more than nine years now and seeing faces she doesn't remember, she doesn't even know anyone from that dream.

I can’t keep the bitterness out of my voice while speaking to him, not that I tried to. Amusement crosses his features, but it quickly vanishes as he rubs the side of his jaw. “You don’t want to keep messing with fire, farfalla. You won’t get burnt this time around because I will set you ablaze.” His hand drops from his jaw and suddenly dives across my scalp, and he yanks on my hair, forcing me to stare into his sin-infected eyes. “I am the monster under your bed. The one haunting your dreams. Claiming your screams for my own. You will never escape me because I intend to keep you.” He whispers in my ear as he leans forward and nuzzles his nose against the crook of my neck.

I chuckle as I lift my drink to my lips. “Blake,” he grumbles. “Putting him to bed has been a nightmare lately. Someone, we’re not sure who, probably a kid in his preschool class, has him convinced monsters live under his bed and are going to eat him the second we leave the room. He gets Liam all wound up, too.” Despite his frustrated tone, he smiles against the rim of his glass. “I wake up every morning and roll over to kiss my wife and find Blake between us, stretched out like a starfish in nothing but his undies, sleeping like a baby.”

I need a little help here. The map glows for a moment, points toward the bed, and then goes blank again. I walk over to the bed. I pull back the covers and look under the pillows, but nothing. I go to my knees and look under the bed. Beneath the bed, I see a dark brown and black amulet shining at me, waiting for me to take it home. There is also a set of eyeballs looking at me.

she says with an evil grin. "What's you doing?" he asks her. "Searching for information about monsters, did you know they live under your bed" she says making the little guy scream with fear and for her to laugh. "Hey not fair!" he says hurt, but he decided to tease her back. "It's not me who's dreaming about monsters, he lives under your bed" he says sticking his tongue out at her. She just giggles ignoring his teasing, pulling him up with her, going to get some blocks out to play with.

Looking at his worried face, into those eyes that I used to drown in, I felt a tightness in my chest. "It's nothing. I'm just a little scared." That was the truth. But what scared me wasn't the ritual tomorrow, or losing the child. It was the mystery hidden behind all this. Kael gently wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me into his embrace. His voice was gentle to the extreme, yet it made my skin crawl. "Don't be afraid. I'm here." "Tomorrow, once we enter the secret chamber of the altar, you'll drink the medicine and sleep. It will all be over."

"You can do this!" My expression must have been pure horror. Who knew what could be under that bed? My mind conjured images of rats, spiders, centipedes, bats, snakes... The rest area was dark, with blackout curtains drawn tight. The only light came from the dim sensor lamp by the bedside and what little filtered in from the doorway. Beneath the bed was pitch black. I couldn't see anything. "Go check," Alpha Sebastian urged, giving my waist a little push. I moved forward three inches, then immediately backtracked three and a half.

A psychotic smile spread across his lips. "You monster! You've lost your senses!" I yelled, my vision blurred by my own tears, but he cackled instead, filling the quiet room with the echo of his voice. "You're right about one thing, I am a monster, the kind who lives under your bed and creeps up at night to watch you sleep, devouring you slowly. And trust me sweetheart," he leaned over, his heavy musk almost choking me. "I won't stop until I've stripped you of every innocence."

“Jonathan! This is not the time to comment on my boxing stance!” “Right,” I chuckled. She’s so naïve that it’s endearing. I checked the bathroom and finally under the bed before climbing to my feet. “I’m happy to report you don’t have any monsters hiding under your bed.” It took several seconds before it finally clicked. “Get out,” Kierra demanded, pointing towards the hallway. “What did I do?” “You play too much, Jonathan. I thought there was an intruder, but you were looking for make-believe monsters under the bed.”
