Without another word he turns and marches out of the room, giving no further glance to Nico who still lays there unresponsive. My heart thunders has he really truly left us alone? I crawl down the bed and peer over the bottom at Nico laying below me “Nico” I call his name but he doesn’t look up, there is no acknowledgement I am even there. I try again and again but he doesn’t react. I let out a cry of frustration and throw myself back on the bed, the tears flow freely now soaking into the pillow.

I sobbed, it was all too much, I didn’t have the strength anymore. “If you don’t, the three of you will die. Do you hear me?” Nico gripped my face in his large hand. “You can do this. You can.” His voice broke saying the last word. The tone of his voice made me look up at him in amazement. He was crying. I’ve never seen him cry. I didn’t think it was possible. “I can’t lose you. You’re my life, Darina.” He pulled me into his embrace and held me close to his naked chest. He’d taken off his sweat soaked shirt.

Niko’s hand squeezed mine tighter. “Don’t be like that,” Torren said. “Asher’s my son too. He’s weak and he needs me.” He turned to Niko, then stopped. His face fell. Niko was crying, silent tears streaming down his cheeks. “You’re crying? Come on, it was—” “Something just got into my eyes,” Niko said quickly, turning to me. “Mommy, can you check?” My heart shattered. He was hiding it, trying to stay strong. Too strong for a little boy.

Emma Soft knocks on the bedroom door startle me, and I hear Niko calling out my name. I sit up in Luca's bed, my face sticky with tears and snot running down my cupid's bow. I quickly use my arm to wipe away the unpleasantness before responding to Niko. After a moment, I answer him. "Yes, Niko?" The door opens slowly, and Niko stands there looking sheepish as if he's waiting for someone to jump out on him. He explained that he wanted to ensure I was okay after I had run off earlier, and I sensed a hint of concern in his voice.

“I went against my Alpha’s by trying to provide you comfort when they were teaching you a lesson. If Niko will continue being a jerk to her, she sure will cry an ocean full or even flood the house.
