“You look like prey when you stand still too long.” I didn’t jump. I should have. Instead, my spine tightened, and I turned my head just enough to see him. Niko stood half a step behind me, close enough that his breath stirred the wisps of hair by my temple, far enough that if anyone looked, it would just seem like two strangers forced into proximity by the crowd.
