I stood slowly, following his line of sight. Sergei’s jacket had flared open, revealing a small black device strapped to his chest, its light pulsing faintly in red.
A transmitter.
My stomach dropped. “No. No, no, no…”
“Back away,” Nikolai commanded sharply, already reaching for his knife to cut the straps.
“Is it a bomb?” Isabella asked, her voice rising with panic.
“Not exactly,” Nikolai replied. “It’s a signal relay — it’s transmitting something.”
