“A salary? Business cards that read Adam Beller, MBA?”
“I don’t need any of that. I just need to know that you want me.”
He shook his head. “After everything we have talked about, all the plans we’ve made, you still don’t understand?” His left hand was on the wheel, and he reached for me with his right hand. “I cannot imagine my life without you by my side, mi amor,” he said. “I am sorry if I have not conveyed that clearly enough.”
The tension in my stomach evaporated. “Sorry,” I said. “It’s just that all my classmates have such clear plans, and we never, you know, said anything official about where I’d live or what I’d do.”
