“The funny part is that I thought you might be my ‘One and Only’.”
His heart contracted. Her shoulders shook as Mackenzie suppressed a heartier laugh.
“I really do appreciate how you helped me see that it’s time I got on with my life,” Mackenzie added and shrugged again. “And, of course, helped me eliminate the barrier that was holding me back. I figure this will jump-start things for me.”
That sick feeling mushroomed inside him.
“Jump-start?”
She nodded.
“Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?”
“No, it doesn’t.”
A kind of panic took hold of him. He grabbed her by the arm.
