“Who?” She shook her head. “I don't know.”. A pause. “But it's not from here.”. Miriam stepped forward. “Define 'not here.'”. Amina's gaze flickered once more towards the sky.. “Not human.”. Silence fell between them. Heavy. Unavoidable. Miriam spoke carefully. Non-human intelligence is not confirmed. Amina chuckled in an almost unbelievable manner. “There were no verified recursive consciousness systems.”. That ended the argument. Adrian's jaw tightened.

I feel locked in my mind, capable of thought and pain and not much else. While I’ve always had a ‘human’ form, I’ve never truly been human at my core. I could get hurt, drunk or have bad food irritate me, but no virus or disease could touch me. I couldn’t even get a sunburn if I wanted to. This form was always weaker, but still capable of things no true human could do. But now I’m not even that. Now…I’m completely mortal. My powers, my immortality, my immunities – both human and magical – are all gone.

My world broke apart in front of my eyes. All this time… We weren’t human. We were monsters.
