Normal Monster Novels & Stories

"The feedback loop will fry your nervous system if you’re the transmitter. I won't let you do it." "You don't have a choice, Julian!" I screamed back, the red light of the 'On Air' sign reflecting in my tear-filled eyes. "Victor is watching. He wants to see if the 'Monster' will choose the girl or the city. If you love me, you’ll help me tell the truth." The studio door creaked open. Okey, the security guard, stood there. But his eyes weren't brown anymore. They were a flat, milky white—the hallmark of a 'Sequence 5' sleeper agent whose "Off" switch had finally been flipped.

After testing, my IQ came back at 200, twice the average. My mother was over the moon. She hired top tutors and swore she would raise me into someone extraordinary. Ophelia even gave me her favorite doll, saying she was proud to have a genius brother like me. The very next day, I threw up all over it. That was also when everything went wrong. I got hit with a sudden illness. My hands started spasming, and I couldn't even hold a pen anymore. The comments flooded the screen. [What the hell is wrong with him? That doll was their dad's keepsake. Ophelia wouldn't even touch it herself, and he just threw up on it?]

“Again, that sorry excuse of a human is not my father. And, you had a deal with Bruce. Why do I have to pay for his sins? Isn’t that a little… I don’t know… medieval?” “Then perhaps,” he said smoothly, “we make a deal of our own, Miss Marlowe.” He sounds completely unbothered. Like this entire conversation was already over in his head. Well, think again, Thanos. “I’m not making any deals with you. I don’t know you. I don’t like you, and honestly this whole kidnapping thing is a terrible first impression. So no. Hard pass you psychopath!” A faint smile touched his lips. “Psychopath is dramatic.”

I adjust the lens and focus on the pair. One is a woman with long dark hair walking a few steps ahead of a boy who is carrying two boxes so big, he can barely see over top of them. The woman laughs when the boy stops, puts the boxes down, and blows his hair out of his eyes. His hair is as black as hers and cut close to his head except for the top, which is long enough that it falls into his eyes. I've never seen eyes that color before. They're the most beautiful turquoise, bright, like the sparkling water of the ocean at my favorite beach in Cancun. With his tanned face and dark hair, they're striking.

“Fine, but it's going to sound crazy. Mona said there is someone in this pack that’s dangerous and working together with an evil witch. She also thinks that the man and the witch have forced her to do things and caused her memory loss.” I was waiting for mom to laugh at me or get angry for even telling her this, but none of that happens. She was quiet for a while and then asked me a question I didn’t expect. “Who do you think it is?” “I know it’s going to sound fucking weird, but I think it might be Beta Norman. There is something up with him.”

“High fever, as you said. Rapid pulse. But… I can’t find anything unusual.” My brow furrowed. “What do you mean, ‘nothing unusual’? She’s burning up! She’s unconscious!” “Medically speaking, Norman, there’s no infection I can detect. No signs of trauma, no fluid in her lungs, her heart sounds fine, brain activity looks normal for someone unconscious. It’s… bizarre. Like her body is in overdrive, but without a clear cause.” He shook his head, a rare look of confusion on his usually confident face. “I’ve never seen anything quite like it.”

His show is tomorrow and if there's any hope that I'm semi-normal and able to perform, I need some TLC. We enter the den and Monroe pulls out an ottoman. "Pants off," he says in the dominant way that drips off him. It's taken me years to figure him out. Well... figure out parts of him. Monroe is an odd, mysterious duck. I'm grateful to call him a friend. "You have such a lovely bedside manner, Nate." The first smile splits his face. "And you are loopy even before the pill takes effect. That is how I know you're in pain."

his voice jerked me back to reality. "hmm can I get your order"I said trying to sound confident, his voice sent me to planet zecury,I don't even know if it exists. "Two pot pies and one smoothie" he said back, with his eyes fixed on me. For the first time I saw genuine admiration and not the usual look of lust I was used to.

“We had not thought of that possibility. We'll have to check the nearby hospitals to see if he was dropped off at any of them.” “What do you think that thing is?” Doris asked them. “Because it's clear that he's not human.” “He's a real monster, but apparently with reasoning,” Norma opined. “Saving someone from an attack and taking a CPU confirms this.” “Do you think he's a werewolf?” Mark asked distractedly watching the video. “He looks hairy, but you can't see it well.” “Maybe,” said Norma. “What is a fact is that it looks much stronger than a vampire, and he's the one who is destroying them mercilessly.”

It pleases me to see young people thriving in this world of monsters. Monsters equal Rowan and people like him. They're the worst kind of monsters, the ones that you can never know the sick, twisted and demented things that run round their mind. Earlier this year, I use to think that my boss was normal. Attuned to work alone and profits, but I never thought he was a beast. One that could bring pleasures like other but at the same thing inflict a significant amount of pain. He was a wolf in a Business man's clothing.
