"You think I don't know what that request actually is? He's not asking for a healer. He's asking for an excuse to keep you close." "That's not your business anymore." "Everything about you is my business." His jaw tightens. "You're still pack. You're still under obligation here whether you like the sound of that or not." I don't answer. I don't owe him an answer, not after what he said to me two nights ago, not after watching him grab my arm hard enough to bruise and growl about ownership like I was property instead of a person.

Chapter 14: Three Years Later Arlo's Pov: “You’re ignoring me.” “I’m listening.” “You’re typing.” “I can do both.” Kevin leans over, trying to peek at Arlo’s laptop. “That’s offensive.” Arlo tilts the screen away without looking up. “That’s private.” “It’s economics,” Kevin says. “How private can it be?” “Very.” Kevin huffs, then nudges Arlo’s shoulder with his own. “You’re actually impossible, you know that?”

It felt like some cursed treasure chest—off-limits and dangerous. Back when we'd sneak kisses in here, I used to ask what she kept inside. She'd never say. Just told me to guess. I tried every code I could think of. My birthday. Hers. Our anniversary. Nothing. Now, hands shaking, I punched in Leonard's birthday—praying I was wrong. Click. The safe opened. My stomach dropped. Inside were two rings. The bands? Engraved: Aurelia & Leonard. Old-school design, but they were spotless—like someone still took care of them.

He dove for me, hands slithered around my waist.

“This isn’t Hello Kitty. It’s limited edition Calvin Klein.” “I DON’T CARE.” Lucifer jumped off the bed like he couldn’t take the energy in the room anymore. Morticia followed like a shadow. Mama stood up, smoothed her dress, and gave me one last look. “And please. Don’t get your hopes up. If Theo survives, don’t pretend to be heartbroken. And if he dies…” “I’ve got new black heels. Perfect for a funeral,” I cut in. She closed her eyes for a second, took a deep breath. “You’re insufferable.”
