Brad closed Phantom up in one of the spare bedrooms with food and a litterbox to keep the animal from getting underfoot. The trio placed REM pods in the downstairs hallway and at the top of the stairs. Cane explained these were used to create a ‘360-degree electromagnetic field’, and the devices would beep and light up if anything disturbed that field, thus alerting them to any movement that was not visible to the eye. The group also placed EM pumps in three rooms—the kitchen, Brad’s bedroom, and his office. The pumps also had to be explained to Brad. They were basically motors that spun magnets at high speeds, the theory being that this could actually stir up paranormal activity.
