“These glasses are an obstruction.”
He slid them off, placing them aside neatly, like fragile evidence.
“Don’t wear them again,” he murmured.
My eyes widened. “Without them I won’t—”
He didn’t even let me finish. He strode to his desk, pulled open a drawer, and revealed a small velvet box. He flipped it open, and I nearly screamed from happiness.
Contact lenses, Correctional ones.
“Wear these from now on,” he said.
My brain shut down. For years I wanted contacts. Glasses had always been an annoyance, fogging up, sliding down, making me feel like a malfunctioning librarian. And now… I was holding the solution.
