When In Doubt Go To The Library Novels & Stories

I spent the afternoon sitting and trying to plot everything on a timeline so I could maybe try and do some research later on about the changes that happened to me. I knew googling would not be very helpful and would most probably only lead me to conspiracy websites or fiction novels so that was out. I also didn't know if there was a library in town or even the next town over where I could maybe go and see if they don't perhaps have any books that would be helpful. The problem now is thinking of the best way to ask the librarian for help finding books in such a way that she doesn't want to send me to the Looney Bin.

It takes me twice as long to find it because I have a hell of a time figuring out the street signs, but I thankfully know how to say “Bibliotheque?” to a random passerby who helpfully points me in the right direction. See, why assume the worst? Around noon, Clara returns, and I learn that we have an assignment due tomorrow. I must have missed Mr. Lawrence mentioning it last week, probably because I tend to zone out when I'm bored. It's a skill that has its pros and cons. “There’s no way what’s happening now isn’t connected to that.” “I agree.” “Perhaps we could ask Maeve?” “Hmm… I think it’d come off suspicious if we’re suddenly asking so many questions” Celeste replied hesitantly. I wracked my brain for ideas, being discreet in a small town is difficult but surely not entirely impossible. “I remember seeing a library just off Main Street… we could try there for the local newspaper articles?” “That could work!” Celeste replied optimistically. I took a final glance around me, noting how the sense of unease still lingered in my gut, before turning on my heel and making my way back into town.

She nodded and disappeared into the labyrinth of bookshelves. Minutes turned into what felt like hours as I anxiously awaited her return. My heart raced with anticipation, mingled with a hint of doubt. What if there was nothing here? What if the answers I sought had vanished into the mists of time? Finally, the librarian reappeared, carrying a weathered box filled with old newspaper clippings and yellowed police reports. She placed it on the table in front of me, cautioning, "These records are quite old and delicate, handle them with care."

I needed to understand what was going on with me, and I hoped that a book in the library could provide me with some answers. As I searched the shelves, I couldn’t find anything that I thought would help me in my research. I bit my bottom lip and sighed. “It’s going to take days combing every book,” I told myself.
