The pendant caught the light, glinting like possibility. The second box revealed a custom made MacBook; matte black, Ivana Prute engraved subtly above the trackpad in silver. I half expected him to have installed spy software, but he left the desktop empty. My old laptop had died months ago, crippled by rejection after rejection. Now this sat in my lap, humming with power. The key fonts were crisp, the glow promising pages I’d only dared to dream of.

When he came back sitting next to me with a huge smile on his face, he placed a red box with a slim gold ribbon before me. "What's that?" I ask him. "Before you start retyping everything, open this." He tells me. My brows creasing but he pushes, "Come on. Open it." I chuckle. I began to pull it closer to me and as soon as I open the box, my throat ran dry and my jaws drops open. "W-what's... What's this for?" I stutter. "I bought you a new laptop." He answers. I gaped. "Gage. You didn't have to. I could've just borrowed your laptop and... This is too expensive." I inspect the brand. It was an Apple Macbook.
