When I arrived in New York, I was supposed to be a freshman, just figuring out my life and what I wanted to do with it. Dorms, classes, and bad cafeteria coffee. Maybe a quiet crush on the dog walker who I didn’t think would ever look at me with interest. I didn’t come here looking for war. For secrets. For mafia entanglements, rescue missions, and backroom blueprints lit by cold monitors and colder truths.

Evelyn’s POV The city hit me like a fistful of cold wind. After days of sun-warmed skin, barefoot walks, and nights spent under skies thick with stars, New York felt sharp—too loud, too fast. Even the air tasted different, metallic where the Bahamas had tasted like salt and fruit. Damian’s arm stayed around my waist as we stepped out of the private car. The Blackstone Tower loomed above us, its glass shimmering in the winter sunlight like something untouchable.

Then more honestly, “I just… know him.” James nodded slowly. “Right.” They moved on, conversation resuming, but something had shifted. Not broken just acknowledged. And later, when James excused himself to take a call, Lily sat alone for a moment, staring into her coffee, the echo of Alex’s voice still tucked somewhere deep in her chest. New York wore power differently. Where Chicago felt ambitious, New York felt absolute. The boardroom at Cromwell & Partners reflected that, floor-to-ceiling windows, a table polished to a mirror sheen, city skyline looming like a promise and a threat all at once.

Chapter 27: The First Edition The floor of The Narrative was really quiet but you could feel the excitement in the air as Elena and Julian got out of the elevator. The big studio in Brooklyn with its brick walls and huge windows was a big change from the crazy and stressful places Elena used to work when she was writing books for other people. Downstairs the teams that did research and design were sitting around a table looking at the final versions of the book before it was printed. They were getting ready to launch the Nora Vale imprint.

Taylor's POV 2 years later Ever since I have stepped into New York, two years ago, my life has turned out to be amazing. I expected nothing on the first day of school, but surprisingly, my class welcomed me with a welcoming party. The lifestyle here in New York is so different from my hometown and I really like this place better. Even though I've been here for only two years, it already feels like home. The truth is I was scared that my group of friends would turn out to be like Melissa who was mean and cruel, but they aren't like her. They are kind, funny, talented and mostly, badass, especially my girls.
