“The mate bond.” I froze completely. The petty retort died on my tongue, and Lita whimpered deep in my mind, curling into a tight, defensive ball. “Oh, yes,” Agatha went on. “All those beautiful stories. All those grand fairytales about destined lovers, unbreakable connections, and eternal devotion. And yet, your perfect mate thinks you’re nothing but a cold-blooded murderer.” I ripped my gaze away from her, staring blindly at the cracked wall, but she noticed the subtle flinch. She noticed everything. A harsh, cruel laugh broke from her lips, echoing off the bare room.

Except for the fact that they don’t have to pretend because it seems natural. “Hi, you are one of the new students here, right?” someone asked, appearing out of nowhere. The woman was wearing a crimson red cloak, the same color as her eyes. I nodded, before she smiled at me, as if excited to take me in a tour inside of this excluded place. “Yes. I’m Agatha. Agatha who felt so much embarrassed after what happened out there with Emanuel heads straight to her father's house where she finds her parents already sleeping and she gets into her room and after taking a shower, she climbs on her bed and cries her eyes out until sleep takes over. All this while, she doesn't understand what she's doing wrong and why Emanuel treats her as if she's not a woman. She wonders what Camilla had that Emanuel keeps on talking about her with Calvin. Oh yeah, she has eavesdropped at them for days and all Emanuel does is to praise Camilla and still wish she didn't meet her mates.
