"About what it costs. And what the cost is worth." He looked at me sideways. "I wrote about a girl who noticed eleven empty chairs." I looked at him.

He always seemed to see the spaces between words. “You don’t have to tell me anything,” he said. “Just know I’m here.” I nodded, grateful. I turned a page, forcing myself to focus on the text. That night, I returned to my room and once my brothers were asleep, I brought it out and scanned through the different pages of the book. The book was encircled around the story of a girl who got mated to four people. At first, it looked like her mere imagination until she because certain that she was indeed mated to four people. As I read further, I learnt that at the end of the day, a choice had to be made. That simply meant that she would pick one of us to would eventually mark her as his forever… That was the part that made my heart fly out of my chest. We were her mates, but not all of us would have her forever. She would have to make a choice. And so, who would she choose?
