Novel The Choice Novels & Stories

The attic flickered, Etienne’s face flashing: her face, younger, before cancer, before lies. Marco, weak but awake, crawled to us, silver scars glowing. “It’s not after regret. It’s after choice. Lila’s choice to run. Mamá’s to lie. Elena’s to love. Alexander’s to wager. Mine to rewrite. We choose the ending.” The thread split, forming a new page: LILA MOREAU: THE CHOICE. I saw it, two paths. Run: Let the thread take me, save the others, balance the ledger with my life.

Choice said adjusting her newly stitched silk gown of cream white color twirling like a little girl. “ Hm … let’s hope that this book given by Mr. Camel proves to be a useful one.” Murmured Destiny while Choice was busy in her own wonderland.

I chuckled as the tears continued to fall and the rumble in his chest made me grow comfortable with staying in that position where nothing else mattered. His smile hit me, the blinding light behind it illuminating the lining of the stars in my universe to fall for him. Only intensifying the wanton need I had for him. I knew I should have been upset over blaming myself for thinking I lost his book, but I was glad that this was happening. "Although I loved all his poems . . . there's one that really stood out to me," he said taking the book out of my hands to flip through it. He eventually placed it back into my hands and I'm met with the words THE CHOICE staring back at me.

Leonard looked up and glanced at me with a complicated look in his eyes. He patted Yelena's back gently. "Let's go home." I stood rooted to the spot and was awash with a myriad of emotions as I watched them hold each other and leave. Melody came up to me and asked softly, "Are you okay?" I nodded and emptied the glass at once. "Did you know?" Melody sighed. "There's a story behind Yelena's miscarriage." I raised my brows. "What do you mean?" "I heard it somewhere." Melody lowered her voice as she continued, "Yelena didn't go for a checkup that day. Instead, she went to get abortion medication from a doctor."

Casey laughs too. "A princess with no crown..." she said, laughing. "I'm not a princess, okay? How can I be a princess? I was a poor girl. I had a bad life. How can a prince marry me, huh? It's impossible. Only in fairy tale can make it come true, not in real life. Real life is sucks. There's no happily ever after! There's loneliness after and after. I don't believe in happily ever after," Casey said bitterly. Niccolo cleared his throat and speak to her, "It depends in how you believe on that, Casey. Happily ever after is a choice, too. If you don't want to have a happily ever after in your life, it'll never happen. But if you want to have your own version of happily ever after, it'll happen

Her mental voice softened slightly. The difference between you and Elias is choice. Silence settled heavily inside my head. He chose to let his pain consume him. The hidden baby shifted again beneath her hand. You keep fighting it. Gods. I closed my eyes briefly. And suddenly remembered something Elias said inside the prison. You still believe you have a choice. Maybe that was the real difference. Not blood. Not power. Choice. I inhaled slowly before finally speaking for the first time since the truth came out. “So what now?”

I had almost decided the conversation was over when the thought I had avoided all evening returned. “Damian, what if we’re wrong?” His fingers continued moving slowly through my hair. “About what?” “About choice. About all our beautiful arguments against prophecy. What if everything really was written in advance? I came here because I was supposed to. Margosha returned to her form because she was supposed to. You turned out to be the Power, and I the Soul. Then the moment we decide fate has nothing to do with our feelings, the sky literally splits open over the mountains. Sometimes I wonder whether we simply call it choice because we are walking a road someone built long before us.”

‎ ‎Some chose to begin new choices. ‎ ‎Some chose to complete old ones. ‎ ‎Some chose to change the nature. ‎ ‎Some chose to keep the truth. ‎ ‎All chose. ‎ ‎The manor was not a manor. ‎ ‎It was choice. ‎ ‎Its walls the memory of every choice ever made. ‎ ‎Its hearth the moment of choosing. ‎ ‎Its garden the possibility of every choice yet to come. ‎ ‎And at its heart, two essences—light and fire—were not watchers.

That one book is probably a love story too and he's borrowing it for someone. That person might be really important to him. . . "I-I know one of his books." I pressed my lips together, gathering myself to tell a lie. "'The Choice', it was really a good one, have you read that too?" "Oh! I know that! I read that last year. I was so happy with the ending. Travis and Gabby, they deserved it. " "Hmm." That's the only thing I could respond to her because I don't have a damn single idea about what the book is about, but then again, it was about love.

Or I could send it to my mother and force her to finally face what she had helped hide. But I didn't do either of those things. Instead, I just sat there and stared at the phone until my eyes burned. A text came through. It was from the unknown number again, the one that had been guiding me this whole time. "You have the truth now. What you do with it will define who you become next. Choose carefully." I read it twice, then set the phone down. Whoever was sending these messages, they were right. I had a choice to make, and it would change everything. I just didn't know yet what the right choice was.
