I wrote about a greedy uncle who loved money more than blood. I wrote until my fingers cramped and my stomach growled loud enough to echo in the empty penthouse. Lunch. I walked out to the kitchen. On the marble counter, next to the high-end coffee maker, lay a crisp fifty-dollar bill. I stared at it.

But I fell for him despite that. I felt Xander's hand in mine. I was startled. I opened my eyes and realized Xander stopped on the side of the road. I looked at him confused. "You're in love with him right?" He asked. I was surprised and for a moment, I was just looking at him. Then tears flowed from my eyes. Xander let me cry and didn't say a word. I don't know how long I cried. He was my first love. And it turned out to be one-sided.

What did it matter where he went or who he was with? It shouldn’t have mattered. I told myself that it didn’t, but somewhere in the recesses of my emotional body, tears were being shed. Duncan Collier was my one true love and I doubted I’d ever feel that way about anyone again. My heart was crushed and so were my hopes for the future.

I said and Alice snorted and I turned to her as a sudden wave of heat passed. “You won’t have said that four years ago.” She said, not at all derogatory and I knew there was no malice but it pinched at my chest and made my eyes blur. Of course I wouldn't, I had thought love was innocent and kind then. I had been a fool then. They waited for my response, I could hear them waiting and the heat hotter my chest tighter. Why was it suddenly hot? “I know, that was when I had thought love was true. I know now it’s a myth.” I replied and just like a whisper I noticed the figure outlined by the door, his frame too large and out of place there.

Therefore, it was doomed from the start. But I was so lulled in the cocoon of love I failed to notice when the clouds began to form. "There's no way I'd risk my pride for that damn Reo!" Jack took a shaky breath. One hand turned to take a bottle of mineral water in the front drawer of the car. Then opened it, and gulped the water in the bottle in one gulp. "Reo ... I love you, but unfortunately this is only limited to being a friend. Not sadly what do you want. To be a gay couple?"
