Now, as I led a group of my most trusted pack members through the snowy forest, dread hung heavy in the air.
As we approached the clearing, my breath caught. The massive pine, which had always radiated ancient power, looked... diminished. Its needles, once vibrant blue-green, had faded to a sickly gray. The very air around it felt colder, more lifeless.
"By the Moon," Nyla whispered, her voice trembling. "What could have done this?"
I approached the tree cautiously, reaching out to touch its bark. The moment my fingers made contact, icy pain shot through me. I recoiled with a hiss, staring at my hand in disbelief. Where I had touched the tree, my skin had turned a pale, frostbitten blue.
