A burning, chemical heat that I recognized instantly.
"Oh," I said, staring hard into the dark red liquid. "This blend is highly unusual."
The young Omega maid standing behind my chair scurried forward, her shoes squeaking against the polished floorboards. "It is a special house mix, Luna. Crushed currents and winter root. Is it not to your liking?"
"There is a distinct note of silverthorn in this glass," I said, my voice dropping to a harsh, gravelly whisper.
The maid blinked, her face draining of colour. "I am certain the kitchens did not include that, Luna. I will have it replaced immediately."
