Maisey chirped. I pulled in the lot and turned off the engine. “What’s not to love about leather, no matter what the age?” I shrugged. Maisey sighed dreamily, “Yeah, leather is nice no matter what.” When we walked in I realized that we were the first ones there and walked up to place my order, “Hey Miss Kayla, Can I get a macchiato with 2 extra shots please?” She nodded and then looked at Maisey for her order. “Can I get a half calf mocha latte please?” Maisey ordered and I arched my brow wondering why she was cutting her caffeine.

“You got latte again?” “Obviously,” she says. “Extra foam. You know me.” I nod. “Still pretending you are fancy.” She kicks my shin under the table. Light. “Still pretending you are not,” she fires back. I laugh. The rain picks up outside. It drums steady on the glass. I watch drops race down the window. Selene stirs her latte slow. Foam swirls into a tiny heart. “My client, Mr. Neon drove me nuts today,” she says. “Wants the drink can to glow in the dark. Like, actually glow.”

What I told you, It's undecipherable. Our coffee come, mine was a caramel macchiato with extra whipped cream, Dex's was Mocca frappucino with cinnamon and hazelnut while Mark ordered a plain iced americano. Game on. I lean toward the open window, projecting my best customer-service smile even though no one can see it. “Hi! Yes, I’ll have a venti iced white mocha with six pumps of vanilla, extra caramel drizzle on top and inside the cup, cold foam with an extra shot of espresso blended in, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on the foam. Oh, and make it oat milk, but extra creamy. Wait... no, scratch the oat milk, go with coconut. Actually, half coconut, half almond. And can you do the drizzle in a heart shape? No, a spiral. If you want something bitter, just go out and chew on some bark or something!”

I smiled back and just shook my head. We parted ways at the cafe. He said he’d pick me up by 5:30 pm since the meet up is still at 7 pm. I still don’t have any idea where we’re going. It’s been hours and it’s 5 already, I started making coffee for each one of us.
