Learning that Orion truly did not know the man made me even more uneasy, but having Orion personally handle security for my house had never crossed my mind. “A security system,” Orion explained. “Let me call Jaxon. We used to own a security business together. He came back home with me, but he still has connections. He can get all the equipment ordered and shipped overnight. We can handle the installation too.” I opened my mouth to tell him I could manage my own security, but he quickly raised a hand to stop me.

"Yes, Mr. Arnoult. If all goes according to plan, we should get the results soon." As he sat behind his laptop, conducting his virtual conference early in the morning, Onyx's rich voice boomed in the empty balcony. "Okay, then, I'll see you again when you return. Mr. Reighs, have a nice day." Onyx sighed as he sipped his coffee and shut off his laptop. His gaze is drawn to the lovely garden that surrounds the hotel.

He was angry, so angry that they were going to leave us and he was hiding what his intentions were from me which was the first clue this was going to hell. A frown spread on his lips before his eyes finally lifted to meet mine, “Onyx is a very… dominant Alpha. James struggled when he’d first met Onyx, far before he shifted for the first time.” A small smile graced his lips as he looked lost in thought at a time when James was so young. “He was only fifteen years old when Onyx made his first appearance,” a chuckle escaped his lips, “James was over the moon that his wolf was presenting at such a young age. He began taking everything more seriously thinking that his father would hand him down the pack early because of it.”

Lennox didn’t look at her. “I wouldn’t dream of it.” But his tone said otherwise. The moment he started working, something changed. The casual edge dropped. Focus replaced it. His fingers moved across the keyboard, slow at first testing, mapping. The system responded in fragments. Not opening. Not rejecting. Acknowledging. “…this is intricate,” Lennox murmured. Rowan watched him closely. “Explain.” Lennox leaned in slightly. “It’s not one system,” he said. “It’s multiple layers operating independently.”

Onyx suddenly said in my head. “Axel...” I called, flicking my gaze at him. “Onyx said—” “I know. Orion just told me now,” he interrupted. A wide smile formed on my face. “So what do we do?” He lunged forward, shifting in the process. Orion’s voice wafted through my head: “Catch me if you can, Onyx.” Without hesitation, Onyx shifted into her form, chasing after Orion while they had the time of their lives.

Onyx chuckled loudly, "Awe, that's cute! Are you trying to flex your chest muscles?" I instantly deflated. I’m the pack gamma, and responsible for caring for everything involving our pack's well being and pups, but in our pod, I was the lowest ranking wolf. Even though Onyx is a Delta and Deltas and Gammas are essentially all the same - pack warriors, Delta's are the elite and fiercest warriors of the pack, and Onyx is the top Delta, just as I am the top Gamma. Where I was skilled and an expert in pack defenses, Onyx was skilled, the stealthiest wolf in the realm and the top war advisor to the King. He is an elite strategist on his own level and I know I can’t compete with that.
