As soon as Owen saw the deep wound, it became red and swollen due to inflammation, and the wound was still bleeding. It had been wrapped in a thick layer of gauze, which was not visible until the nurse removed all the gauze. Only then did he realize that the innermost layer of gauze had been soaked in fresh blood. “What happened to you?” I forced myself to peel my eyes open and take my eyes to see exactly the same horror he was seeing. And when I saw it, I had just the same expression that was on his face. Across the surface of my abdomen was a wide slash-like wound. It was deep, ugly and bleeding like it had all the time in the world to bleed. But worst of all, it wasn’t healing. And it was fucking weird. Werewolves healed fast, even partial wolves and wolves that were yet to shift. But this…This wound looked hours old and it still gaped open like it had just been made.

“At least there is some innocence in this place.” Sighing, I push the flour aside. It’s not like this is the first time something like this has happened. I’ll find a way to use it. Right now, I have to focus on my injury instead. After rolling up my pant leg, I carefully peel away the bandages. The wound looks better; the edges are closing, and the angry redness has faded to a dull pink. But it’s healing slowly—too slowly for someone who needs to be back in those dangerous woods soon.
