Moressett screamed and swiped at Hailey's face. Hailey moved out of the way as quickly as she could—which wasn't fast at all—but Moressett's claws managed to rake down her neck. Pain blazed through her like a white-hot knife, and she bit down hard on her lip to stifle a scream, tasting the coppery tang of blood. Every nerve in her body screamed in protest, and despite her efforts to maintain composure, a cry escaped her lips as Moressett tore into her skin.
