“That’s what heroes do.” That word stings more than it should. Hero. I nearly choke on it. “Is that what I am?” I whisper, almost to myself. “Of course,” she says without hesitation. “You’re not bad. You just fight bad people.” I stare at her for a second. My heart’s thudding so hard it feels like it’s trying to break out of my chest. I don’t know what to say, so I just… look. The others had worse injuries than mine. We might have lost some today if it hadn’t been for you. You’re our hero,” she emphasizes on the last word. “I’m Natasha, by the way, but please call me Tasha.”

“I’m so sorry.” “It’s not like you did anything wrong,” I said. “It’s not your job to apologize. Still, why don’t you focus on telling me what you’re so happy about?” “That’s easy,” she trilled. “You single-handedly changed the lives of every woman in Packhaven and Southhaven and half of those in Orlune. I can’t believe that I have a friend who’s a real honest-to-goddess hero.” I could feel a blush creeping up my cheeks at the recognition. “I never set out to be a hero. I just wanted to do what was right.”

My eyebrows knitted even further, looking at her intently. “You know why” I shook my head in denial. She looked hurt, and I didn't like seeing her look like that. It wasn't fair to make her sad. But I had to know, I needed to understand. “How does being a hero end so horribly,” she said softly, her gaze fixed on her bare feet. “How did I end up in this situation? How could I have such an awful past? Why do people hate heroes so much?” Tears brimmed in her eyes and she looked so miserable.

Her powers were formidable. "Uuuh! That's so cool!" I chirped again knowing the sly old woman had made it about me. She needs to cut me some slack seriously, making me out to be the embodiment of great spiritual endowment; when in actual facts? I ain't shit! I was nothing! I was an outstanding heroine to be weary of in her conjuncture yet ordinary kish! The leech of a girl had no iota of dread for me! What a joke. Hisses. lols! oh! Grandma! Grandma! Grandma!' I trailed off in my head.'

Those blonde hair now with a kind of black liquid dripping from the ends, her curves so voluptuous but corrupted at the edges, I don't need to see her face to know exactly who it was. Hope answers something that doesn't reach my ears, but I jump towards that woman, before Erick can do anything, using the force of the fall to hit my enemy harder, I hit her back and Hope takes a step to the side and lands next to her. That woman turns around, her once perfect face now covered in anger. "He's MINE!" She screams, and I let out a growl that makes her flinch. "I am no one's and at the same time I am in everything!"

I can feel my chest becoming too tight to house my pounding heart, and I let my body fall forward to bury my face against his chest with fists clutching his jacket. “If you want me to leave, I’ll go...but just don’t leave me in the dark again. Let me support you, as your mate” What do they call heroines like this? Meek, submissive, and pathetic, right? They keep falling subservient beneath their dominant mates and are the ones who keep the appeasing end.

And I had to admit, it took everything in me not to call her mate or try to at least get a little closer to her, keeping in mind that I didn’t know what kind of trauma that she’s been through as I didn’t want to add more into her bowl. “Why not? I doubt that she wouldn’t be proud of a kind hearted man like yourself.” She said, making my chest swell. “I know that I would be proud if I had a man like you in my life. If anything, it would be my reminder that I had a hero somewhere.”

I really did not like the look of disdain on her face as she looked at me. “Oh fuck off! This woman was scared to death. She wanted to tell me something important and you just shot her in the head. She didn't do anything to me. The dress she made for me looked so beautiful until you decided to shoot her brain and make her blood spill on my beautiful dress. She's not the evil one, you are”, she screamed back at me.
