My heart skips a beat. Shit.

The pulse of my heart the only measure of time, the only beat I know. And the waiting is everything.

I could feel my heart beating a little too much now. Something wasn’t right. -

But instead, they seemed to mirror the thoughts within him, it's light reflecting his thoughts. He had spent years building walls around his heart, guarding it fiercely against any potential hurt or disappointment since the demise of his wife. Yet, Mitchell had effortlessly broken those barriers, leaving him exposed. It was a feeling he hadn't experienced in a long time. It was a mix of fear, excitement, and a longing for something he couldn't quite define.

But | wasn't afraid. Coach slapped my back again once the announcer started the fight.

Only ambiguity. Only the fragile silence of two hearts beating in a wild, unpredictable rhythm.

Again, I hear the tiny thumping of a small heart. A baby.

We were so close I could see the individual flecks of dark in his green eyes, could see the pulse beating in his throat, fast and steady. Why is my heart doing this.
