“Ever played ‘Shadows and Waves’?” I glance at Celeste, who looks just as clueless as I do, but that’s never stopped Nate. He plows on, explaining the rules. “It’s simple. We split into teams and head into the water. One team tries to keep hold of this,” he pulls out a glow-in-the-dark ball from seemingly nowhere, holding it up with a flourish, “while the other team tries to steal it. All while staying in the water, of course. Whoever has the ball when time runs out wins.”

When we step onto the platform I stand back a little so Kane can address the crowd. “Welcome everyone to the annual Moon Ball. I’m honored to be the host today. I hope to the moon goddess that everyone finds their mates. We have drinks, food and of course dancing. At midnight we will have our annual run. At this time I would like to announce that I have found my Luna. The SilverLake Pack, I would like to introduce you to Ella Morrighan, my mate and your Luna.” Kane’s words ring out in the hall joined by cheers and howls. “Okay everyone enjoy the festivities. We will all meet in the clearing behind the pack house at midnight.” Kane is ready to go. But it would be rude to just leave.
