He turns us to the right. There the space is empty for the most part. A robe hangs on a hook by the door. At the end of the empty racks, another space for shoes takes up a portion of the wall. Three pairs of fuzzy slippers in yellow, green, and Giants orange are illuminated by the overhead lighting. We walk farther into the closet where a large white square dresser takes up the middle of the space. He pulls open the top drawer a small amount. There's a flash of pink before he closes it again.

I inhale deeply, savoring the earthiness that clings to the air before turning to the rest of my morning. The closet greets me with orderly rows of fabric and color, a testament to my exacting nature. Deep jewel tones and soft, neutral palettes line the shelves, each piece carefully selected to project a different facet of my persona. In the back corner, hidden in the shadow of the door, a soft leather jacket hangs among the business wear, its presence both foreign and familiar. I do not touch it. Not today.

"I could live in here. Just set up a bed, and I'm good." "You're ridiculous." "No, I'm practical. There's a difference." We dissolved into giggles, and for a moment, everything felt normal. Like we were just two friends having fun instead of two women whose lives had been turned completely upside down. After we were done, we wrapped ourselves in the plushest towels I'd ever felt and moved to the closet. My jaw dropped when I opened the double doors. The closet was filled with outfits, designer pieces still bearing tags, arranged by colour and style like a boutique. It was as if my aunt had planned for this day, had somehow known exactly what sizes we'd need.

Opposite it, a counter with drawers that serve as support for storing smaller items, such as watches, wallets and sunglasses. The clothes are hung on hangers organized by type and color. Shirts, jackets and pants are impeccably arranged. A section dedicated to shoes in a variety of models, from casual sneakers to leather dress shoes, all lined up on shelves. Please be the existing door, please…. I turned the knob open and to my disappointment, it wasn’t the exit door but it was through a room, in other words, a closet. I have never seen a real closet before, I have only seen it in movies. And to be honest, I have never in my life seen this many clothes before, it was so nice.
