I like to think of it all as a terrible dream I might one day wake from. But there is one dream that does haunt me most. In this dream, my fever has broken, and Jessamine is asleep on the chair across from me. She’s in a nightdress, and there’s a book covering her face with an obscene cover. In this dream, my hands and feet aren’t bound, and I can walk just fine without tripping on my vomit. I hover over Jessamine and pull the book back from her sleeping face.

Dust clung to some of the covers, while others looked strangely untouched, almost as if they were waiting for someone like me to pick them up. I needed to move fast before someone noticed I was gone, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was on the edge of uncovering something important. The question was—was I ready for it? I shook my head. I should be ready for anything, especially now that the threats of the walkers are slowly affecting me in the dream realm. I at least have to know how to fight them, their weakness, and everything else. My eyes peered at this one book, it was a storybook about the dreamscape, and as I scanned through the introduction…there were walkers on it.

Was the reason I came into this world to feel pain and nothing else? I reached out to my pillow and stared at the title of the book. Tell Me Your Dreams… Dreams?
