Mia’s POV The sky had long darkened, and the golden hues of dusk gave way to deep indigo. Inside the bookstore, the soft lamplight cast a cozy, flickering glow on the wood-paneled walls. It smelled like old paper, fresh espresso, and cinnamon muffins—the comforting signature scent of Chapters & Coffee. Marco.

“I’m opening a bookstore.” Silence dropped over the room like a heavy blanket then Ruth burst out laughing so hard she nearly choked. “A bookstore,” she repeated. “In this town?” “Yes,” he said proudly. “Right on Main Street. Small, cozy, lots of used books, local writers, coffee in the corner and comfy chairs the whole thing.” I stared at him, stunned. “You already did this?” I asked. He shrugged. “I put a deposit down before I came back I didn’t want you talking me out of it.”

Grand, with a vaulted ceiling arched high, painted with constellations and mythic beasts, towering shelves rising like walls, carved from dark oak and lined with books. “Here.” He pulls out an old book, its cover black and edged in gold. At the center gleams a golden wolf’s head, bared teeth frozen in a snarl. Behind it, a raven spreads its wings wide, poised as if descending from the sky. Grimm opens it. The pages are an old, yellowish color, but intact. “Most of the Raven Wolf King books here are written to sound like fantasy, as if he were just a fairy tale. This one’s the one you want. Depicts date‑to‑date events.”

I walked over to the children's books area, I was thankful no one was around as I sat down in a beanbag after grabbing a few books to read. "Ella, stop slouching around and get to work" my manager yells at me, there was no one in the shop while I was sitting around here. I looked up to see a woman standing next to the register, I huffed angrily and put the book away before walking over to the nice looking lady. "Hi ma'am, how may I help you?" I ask the woman, she was only about five feet tall, with brown long hair and brown eyes. "Hello, I'm here for the new werewolf story" she says looking at me, I tried my best to hide under my own overgrown bangs.

I turned to the exit and there were still a lot of people there so I just decided to look at the shops in the alley. The first store, the merchandise there, and hats. It's nice but I have no interest in hats. That's why I got over it. I went to the next store and saw that birds were also sold there. Usually, owls are on display. Most of them are sleeping because they are nocturnal. At the third store, I saw that what they were selling were tools. But these are not just any tools because they are like old things that I don't know what to call them.

Before walking through the door I stop on the step and look up at the sign above the doorway. An old slab of wood hanging on iron chains. Ben glanced at Oliver in the rearview mirror. "Do you know a bookstore here?" I want to go there." Oliver was immediately interested in buying a book that was made by his neighbor; he didn't know the author's name, but Oliver could like it from the title of the book. "Why go to a bookstore? I can find you one without you having to go to the trouble of looking for it." Ben found it strange because in the four years, he had been Oliver's secretary, he had never once seen Oliver go to a bookstore. Even if there was a book the man wanted, he would order it online or tell Ben to look for it.
