Pachinko Book Review Novels & Stories

Pizza is probably one of my comfort foods when I am feeling down or just want to be happy. I kept on eating, not really conscious of my weight since even though I ate too much, it didn't really affect my weight. My stomach felt like it was going to explode from fullness, but there were still several slices of pizza left that I couldn't finish, so I decided to have them wrapped to take home and reheat later. After finishing my meal, I decided to visit a bookstore to look for some books to read during my free time. I saw an English book written by JK Rowling called "Casual Vacancy," which I had heard a lot about, so I decided to buy it. I also bought a couple of books written by Johanna Lindse

She glanced back down at the leather-bound book resting on the floorboards beside her. The empty pages seemed to stare up at her, daring her to turn them. With a trembling hand, she picked it up again, the leather warm against her palm. She knew she should get up, should finish unpacking, should do something practical, anything to distract herself from the throbbing between her legs. But she couldn't. She was hooked. The anonymous writer had become a guide, a seductress whispering secrets into her ear, and Pinky was a willing student, desperate to learn every lesson.

But then, he remembered something. “Mukgu’s book!” Mingchan gasped. He stood up from the sofa and then walked towards the grocery boxes to get Mukgu’s w*****n book. “Mukgu..” He murmured. Mingchan bent over and shoved away the boxes until he found the w*****n book. He picked it up, stood up straight and hugged it. “I am so happy! I must read this!” Mingchan said happily. He then hopped on the sofa from that direction and he was able to sit right away. He then opened the sealed w*****n book and started reading it page by page. Mingchan was laughing at first because the illustration was so cute. But then he realized something when reading it.

"In that case, I think the pizza can wait." End of Book One: Incendiary

She quickly replied, rapidly moving to follow the woman as she noticed the maid had already started walking away. She obediently trailed after the old woman round the massive staircase and into what looked like an office, the girl once again marvelling at the sight as it held only the finest furnishing as well, with a desk fit to accomodate a true king and an appropriately stocked bookcase, all designed in the same nuance of dark cherry and baroque carvings. "I see that you have worked before as a cleaning maid," The woman commented after a quick glance into her resumé, neatly placing the file over the desk before she turned back to look at the young girl.

I walked into the inner part of the book shop and excused myself after I belched. “This one is Six Thousand Naira”. “If you interrupt mw again, you won’t like what I’ll do to you…” The shopkeeper saw my countenance and left me alone, before going to fetch cellophane bag. He picked up the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records and bagged it, and waited patiently for me to pick another book. I soon picked The Family by Mario Puzo and Carol Gino. I was handing the novel to the shopkeeper, who was already with a calculator, when I saw it. It was a dark hardcover book, with pink and dark designs. I smiled broadly and extracted it from the shelf with both hands.

My knees buckled, and the world faded to black. … I was lost in a long, fevered dream. In it, I was a child again—always hungry, always cold, buried in the kind of poverty that stains your soul. I remembered one time, my mother had saved for weeks from her seamstress work to buy me a single, hot chicken drumstick. "Eat it, Susan. While it's still warm," she'd said, her voice soft with a love she couldn't otherwise show. I'd reached for it, my small hands trembling with anticipation. But before I could take a bite, the door crashed open. Debt collectors—my father had gambled away money we didn't have again.
