I chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. Ignoring my quip, Anya leaned in, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's not just a party, Aria." Her words were an ice-cold splash of water. The amusement seeping out of me just a moment ago froze in its tracks. "Wh-What do you mean, not just a party?" My voice was hushed, matching hers. My brow furrowed, my mind whirring with a thousand possibilities. What kind of other "party" were we talking about here? ***

I died shivering in that forgotten walk-in freezer, the cold swallowing me whole. It was only after death claimed me that the truth finally surfaced. Chloe had changed the setting from 14°F to -58°F. The phone I could have used to call for help froze and died with me. Afterward, my soul lingered, tethered to the shadows of my three brothers. For three endless days, I watched them hover around Chloe's hospital bed, as if she were the true victim clinging to life.

A sharp, scorched smell filled the air. Juliet let out a pained groan, but her arms remained wrapped tightly around me. The sudden turn of events left everyone frozen in shock. Then the bailiffs rushed forward, surrounded Charles, and pinned him down. The crowd screamed in the background. "Call the ambulance!" "Control the scene!"

I asked. “The only Chinese inspired restaurant in town? Yeah,” she laughed. “Maybe I’ll just get a bunch of frozen shit from the store and thaw it for the party.” I grimaced. It was one of the only things I hated about Aspen Falls. Nobody had good party food. Back in Boston, I’d ask Uncle Micky’s cook to whip stuff up for me. “That doesn’t sound bad. They’ve got those cheese stuffed frozen pretzels,” Kam got a dreamy look on his face at the thought of those.

We had party which is mostly is idea while Lizzy and Lora arrange everything for the party. I just don't want to have a party, nothing that would remind me of Tony. I would go to work and make it look like a normal day. I sighed. I walked to the fridge and opened it. I took out the ice cream and open it. I poured more into the bowl and took it back to the fridge. I took the bowl and went back to the sitting. Lizzy and Lora had help themselves with some pizza. I sat down on the couch and began enjoying my ice-cream. Lora passed the box of pizza to me.

The specific, unhurried quality of a party that does not have an official end time because the people at it are the right people and the right people have nowhere they need to be at any specific hour. Food from three local restaurants that Carmen had once patronised and which Elena had been going to since she was four years old at Carmen's side. Wine from a vineyard in the Finger Lakes that Rosa had found and Dominic had been ordering since the cottage years. Music from a quartet that James had hired and which played for three hours with the self-effacing professionalism of musicians who understood that their job was to be the quality of the afternoon rather than the focus of it. “Maybe you are right. We can accept the pain brought by the past and by the people we have trusted. But the thought of it happening is the reason why parties exist.” She roared with laughter; we both did. It’s the first real laugh we had that we almost forgot that existed since last night. “Forgive and forget,” she mumbled as she pulled me to the dance floor and we both danced in BlackPink’s As If It’s Your Last. “I don’t believe in it.” “You don’t?” Her tone was confused as she moved her body, her left hand rested on top of her belly. “No. because I believe in Party Now, Cry Later.”
