As she exhaled, lightning shot from her fingers into the sky. The ground shook. "Pet, you want to play?" Merlin called as if he were using a PA system. Stretch's mouth edged up into an evil grin. "Sure, asshole. Let's dance." She bent low and launched herself into the sky. "What the fuck!" Drace followed after her, transforming into her dragon form as she did. She caught Stretch on her back. "Well, get the fuck up here. It seems Corcra's ready to play." As one, everyone who was in the small group, transformed into their dragons. We charged the sky as Drace carried Stretch on her back.

The air was filled with a sweet, musical hum, like the gentle singing of a thousand soft voices. I watched in awe as the City of Dragons finished transforming before our eyes. The walls once cracked and worn, began to repair themselves, the stones glowing with a soft, ethereal light. The streets, once dark and deserted, began to fill with Dragon shifters, dragons, and human forms alike, all emerging from the shadows to rejoice in their newfound freedom. The sky itself seemed to brighten, the clouds parting to reveal a brilliant, shining sun. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, and the sound of laughter and music drifted through the streets.

He grinned. Before anyone could contemplate what was about to happen, a deep roar shook the earth. Sending all of them backwards. Slamming them into trees. A black giant dragon suddenly and slowly emerged from the other side of the forest. Approaching the scene stealthily. Its rough skin was dark as obsidian and long claws which could cut through steel. Its eyes burn brightly like hot coals and an earth shattering roar left its mouth, its razor sharp talons which could tear through anything. The sight of the dragon sent tremors through the men and they retreat carefully.

But something inside of me was telling me that I needed to know. “The dragons choose their king,” she explained. “They usually choose a dragon master to become their king. Dragon masters are already connected with the dragons in a way that the rest of us aren’t. They have an infinity for dragons and can call upon a dragon at any time. But the dragon king… he’s a different story. Once a master is appointed a king or queen, they don’t just have the infinity for dragon… they can transform into one.” I gasped. “Like a shifter?” I asked.

I do not bother climbing down the tower stairs. Instead I run two steps across the balcony railing and jump. The wind catches me instantly. Halfway through the fall my bones begin to change. The transformation tears through my body like lightning splitting the sky. Muscles stretch. Wings burst outward with a violent snap. Scales erupt across my skin in a cascade of gold and obsidian. By the time my claws slam through the rushing air below, my dragon has fully taken the sky. I roar. The sound rolls across the cliffs like thunder.
