Daniel checked the slip pinned to his backpack. “Cabin Five. You?”
“Cabin Four,” I said, smiling.
He raised his eyebrows. “Next door neighbors. Just like home.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Perfect.”
When I reached my cabin, the girls were already claiming bunks, laughing, and introducing themselves. I set my bag down by a bottom bunk near the window. The wooden walls smelled faintly of pine, and the sunlight streaming in made everything feel warm and cozy. My new cabin mates seemed friendly, but even as they chatted around me, I found myself glancing outside, where Daniel was lugging his bag into Cabin Five.
