I shake the daze from my eyes and look up to see Nico staring down at me with an irritated look on his face. “You and I need to talk,” he growls as he pulls me out of the gym. I open my mouth to yell for Deimos, but Nico covers my mouth with his hand. “Don’t even think about it. Or your little brother Phineas will be the first to die,” Nico threatens me. I nod my head up and down, knowing that Nico is capable of terrible things and he would kill a child if it meant getting his way.

She glanced down again at her tablet, and when she looked back up, her eyes flicked briefly to mine, searching my face as if bracing for the impact her words would have. “His name”, she said slowly, “is Nico.” My stomach dropped like a stone into water. Cold fear surged through me, colliding with fury. Nico. The same man who’d nearly destroyed Jace on the ice. The one who smiled with poison behind his teeth. What did he want this time?
