He put his cup on the mantelpiece and went out to his backpack which was still in the hallway to retrieve a pack of cards. “I know you like playing games, but there are only two of us here so it limits the choice. Do you know any card games?” he asked. Sebastian sat up and put his cup down. “All card games apart from bridge are banned in the palace because they’re associated with gambling,” he said. “You’ll have to teach me everything.” Edward dealt the cards and started out with a simple card game to teach Sebastian the basics. As expected Sebastian was beating him after one game. He moved onto a different game and Sebastian proceeded to beat him after one around.

He was tending to glowing plants, looking really focused on them. I walked toward him. “They’re beautiful,” I said. “What are they?” “Moonvine,” he replied calmly. “They’re good for stabilizing volatile magic.”
