I held it up. One photograph. Twenty-some years of truth. The screen showed it enlarged to fill the full display, the washed-out, consumer-camera quality of a thirty-year-old photograph taken without professional intention by a neighbor pointing her camera at a riverbank in the summer of an ordinary year, and in that quality, in the imperfect, accidental, entirely undeniable reality of it, the truth was more complete than any professionally staged image could have been.

As she swiped through the pictures, everything seemed ordinary until she stumbled upon one particular photo. It was a picture of a beautifully presented dinner plate, seemingly taken at a restaurant. At first glance, only the plates and silverware were visible. However, upon zooming in, she noticed a hand resting on the table beside the plate, opposite to where the photographer must have been sitting. In the picture, she was shopping, her long, perfectly manicured fingers skimming carelessly over an exquisite cashmere dress while her empty gaze remained unfocused. Not a hair out of place, her long, tall form packed into a cream-coloured pencil skirt and a pink flowery blouse. Her pale blond hair flowed down her back like a silk waterfall. Reyes grunted and crushed the picture in his fist, tossing it over the top of his immaculate desk.

I looked at it and smiled when I saw his picture. "He's very handsome. A few strands of his blonde hair fell on his face. He has captivating light brown eyes, and his skin is so flawless that you can't see any purse. His lips are thin and pink, so soft just by looking at them, and he has a piercing on his ears, two on the right and one on the left. He has a very charismatic feature and is very appealing.
