An old man holding his wife’s hand. Trees. Lastly, I sketched three roses. Flowers wouldn’t be the subject for my painting for sure, but it wasn’t a crime to sketch something for the pure joy of it.

The drawing slowly took shape in the sandbox. As Ezra finished the last stroke, Vivienne stared blankly. The drawing he had made was blurry yet familiar to her. It resembled the kind of drawing she used to love making as a child, with bells, sunflowers, a large vase, a small round table, princess-style floral curtains, and a room filled with toys... It was like a design she had drawn for Ezra's villa, but the only difference was that her design had a professional touch, while the one Ezra drew in the sand was completely childlike.

Usually, I draw houses with a triangle above, a square below, two little boxes inside and a sideways rectangle for the door.” Okay, that was actually pretty smart. “That's one easy house.” I chuckled. “That's why I like it. It's easy. After that, you choose the colours you want. It doesn't have to be complicated.” “You do not talk like a seven year old, young lady.” I said to her and she giggled softly.

I look over at him and he holds out the picture he drew. The picture he drew is of a big round thing and I can make out some trees, the sun, a patch of grass and water. I crouch down beside him and smile, “How beautiful,” I say. He beams at me. “Real?” he asks and I nod. “Yes! So tell me about your drawing,” I ask him after quickly switching off the stove. He looks down at the drawing and points at each object. “That you mate. Tree, pond in forest mate drink from and sky, dis grass.”
