Cora gasped for air for the second time before she speaks to him. "You left us without turning back earlier, Niccolo. We thought you were angry with us, especially with me. I was teasing my friend because you have the same favorite fruit," she explained to him. "Mango is your favorite fruit, right? It's her favorite fruit too." Instead of being pissed off, he started to laugh at her.

Pique

Pique

Another one popped out of thin air. This time it was a young girl wearing a lime colored dress. Her emerald hair that matches her eyes, were tied in pigtails as the soft curls sprung from it. In contrast with the boy earlier she had stunning olive skin. When Ava looked closer, a ghost of a smile emerged from the boy in black as that girl held his hand. "Thade, Fiel. It's uhm-" He scratched the back of his neck and was about to begin explaining when Ava covered his mouth. "He wants to let me live," she snickers while the other two widen their eyes-flustered.

Lavender Girl

Her other hand was holding the one she had stolen from Ravyn up to the moonlight to admire its beauty, not realizing it was a carambola, whose size and touch are difficult to distinguish in the dark from the 3D emblem. "Eh?" Miho's frustration at being outwitted by Ravyn grew as she witnessed what she saw. "Damn, how great!" Miho threw that star fruit onto a nearby rocky hill to vent. *splat* But where the fruit hit was not a rocky hill. Instead, it was unintentionally awakening a sleeping being. It was furious and stood up without hesitation. *ROAR!!*

A Queen Among Darkness

A Queen Among Darkness

Valeria asks as she sniffs the fruit. “It’s called fragosika, it’s a cousin to the dragon fruit only this is very sweet. Try it,” I encourage as I bite into the tasty fruit. Valeria gives it a tentative lick, and I try not to laugh. She bites into it and then smiles happily, “This is really good!” “Maybe we can take some home with us,” I suggest as we finish our fruit and continue our journey through the long winding streets, “Speaking of home…” “Uh oh, I don’t like that tone.”

Denae O'Connor
This is by far my favorite book in this entire series. Not every author can write a same-sex relationship and make it so layered and nuanced instead of "corny". A.D. Burnell is a Queen Among Authors, and I can't wait until they get thr recognition they so thoroughly deserve.

One of the things i love about this series is that you think you know everything, and then you start the next book and so many layers are peeled back that blow your mind. it makes this the most addictive series ever

Frequently Asked Questions

I still get a little giddy when I think about how small, soft characters like lil pika spread—it's like watching a dandelion puff of cuteness go airborne online. From what I’ve pieced together, the character is a stylized take on the real pika (the little mountain-dwelling mammal, genus Ochotona), filtered through kawaii sensibilities. Someone somewhere drew a round, chubby pika with tiny ears and oversized expressiveness, and it fit perfectly as a sticker, emote, and plush design. Platforms like Tumblr, Twitter, Discord, and later TikTok/Etsy were the wind that carried it; people slapped it on keychains, phone cases, and reaction packs.

I dug through shop listings and sticker packs and found a handful of creators riffing on the concept rather than one obvious originator—so I tend to think lil pika is more of a community-born mascot than a single IP. If you want the earliest version, try searching sticker archives and old Tumblr posts with terms like ‘pika sticker’ or ‘lil pika plush’—it’s a little fandom archaeology, and it’s oddly satisfying to track how an animal + a cute design trope snowballed into a tiny internet star.
