It was silent now, aside from my footsteps, but I still could imagine just how magical it felt when the piano at the center of the room was being played. I kept searching the library; none of the titles stood out to me so I gave up and grabbed the book that was sitting in a cozy-looking chair. I plopped myself down and flipped through the first few pages. My eyebrows furrowed as I closed the book and reread the title. "The Origin of Shifters?" I murmured. This book should be thousands of pages long with obnoxiously dense material, but the one in my hands was maybe a hundred pages and full of hand-drawn pictures.

All of the covers made the books look promising and I got confused trying to pick one of them. "Wow, this looks good but this…" I sighed, shaking my head before finally deciding what I wanted to read. "This one," I smiled to myself picking up the book with had the picture of a princess and a man. "This one looks great," I got comfortable, opening the first page as my eyes began to dart through the laters. At least, I was now less lonely than before. I didn't know how but I lost track of time and didn't know what time it was until Logan came into the room.

Nothing could drive the reality of my boredom home more thoroughly than realizing that I’m sitting here thinking about Redgrave’s diet. When the girl returns to take my plate, she silently sets 2 books on the table, before scurrying out again. Oh thank heavens. Both novels boast pictures of sweaty, shirtless men on the cover and after a shower, I slide under the covers and pick one up at random. Gratefully losing myself in a world of forbidden love and unrequited longing. I’m nearly halfway through the novel when my eyes grow too heavy to continue and I reluctantly put the book down and turn out the table lamp.

For a second, I’m tempted, but then another wave of heat erupts in my chest, and I lose my nerve. “Tell me about the other books,” I say instead. “The other books?” I nod. And as I tuck my knees to my chest and wind my free arm around my knees, breathing through the stuffiness that’s getting more unbearable by the minute, I listen to the most garbled plot summaries I’ve ever heard in my entire life. “Okay. See, there’s this one with a man and his nephew. And they journey to the center of the earth. And there are dinosaurs. And a tornado? Shit—” The brow furrows again. “It might have been a tsunami. Something like that.”
